GlassGard : Challenge accepted !!!

WHEN TWO FORCE COLLIDE GLASSGARD VS GT WINDSCREEN COATING

When two brands collide more often than not we wonder which is the best out of the two, so before you spend your hard earned cash on one of them we’ll test it out for you first. One of the best brands from Taiwan GT Windscreen Coating against yours truly TEVO GlassGard from Malaysia.

To test this, first we divide the car windscreen into two part and coat each side with different coating. On the left side of the windscreen, it is cleaned with GT first step and then GT windscreen coating is applied. On the other side, the windscreen is treated with TEVO Glass Watermark Remover and then GlassGard is applied.

Now both coating claims it can increase visibility and enhances vision while driving typically during the rain, now let’s see if it’s true. But first….

Do you really need windscreen coating? Is it just a gimmick?

Let’s observe the situation below. Usually during a heavy rain almost always a windscreen that is not coated with coating will end up like this.

Rain water will spread and stick onto the windscreen and it will be very dangerous to drive in this condition even when the wiper is on. You have close to zero visibility and afterwards when the rain stops the water will dry and left a watermark stain. Over time the stain will be hard to remove leaving an ugly mark. If the car is coated with windscreen coating the situation would be different, water will bead and roll off the glass pushed by the wind.

Okay when you look at the video above, which is the coated side? If you say the right side then you’re correct, one look and you could tell that it has better and enhanced visibility. The rain water just bead and rolled off the windscreen and the driver doesn’t even have turn on the wiper to drive on the road. It is a matter of safety and in my opinion spending a bit of your money on a windscreen coating could mean life or death in some cases, so is it worth risking your life? I think not.

Now that you understand the importance of windscreen coating, let’s get back to the test at hand. The test was carried out on 7th September 2018. Both of the steps are taking 20 minutes to complete. After the coating has been applied, we tested the coating layer with a water gun and let’s see the result.

As expected, both coating performed well, water beading can clearly be seen on the windscreen and from the inside the view is not impaired.

GT Windscreen Coating  (Left side of the picture: Driver seat)
Hydrophobic Level : Good - Water roll of easily with no tailing water bead
Smooth touch : Good - Squeaky clean
Water angle : Good - Visuallize measurement
Water on surface : Many - Visuallize measurement

GlassGard (Right side of the picture: Passenger seat)
Hydrophobic Level : Excellent - Water roll of easily
Smooth touch : Excellent - Oily smooth finishing
Water angle : Good - Visuallize measurement
Water on surface : Less - Visuallize measurement

Based on observation both coating perform well, just practically the GlassGard is having a better visualize effect in which you can notice only a few bead is still attached on the windscreen. However lets not rush to conclusion yet, to see whether the coat is long lasting we test the coating again after 5 days and lucky for us its raining, so we get to test it on the road this time.

This is the visual from inside the car when driving at a standard speed of 60 km/h.

GT on the left: Good hydrophobic but a lot of  water bead can be seen on the glass.
GlassGard on the right: Good hydrophobic and less water bead attached on the glass.

The condition above shows the car is driven around the chemical industry area which is a highly polluted environment with a driving distant of 50km. So far both of the coating still performed well as it should be. After 20 days of application we review the coating layer again, now the coating has endured more than 1000km.

Turns out both of the coating still performs well in this round, both coating brands managed to show excellent performance for extended period of time. Every brand of coating can perform well if the application is correct, and every brand have different specialties when it comes to detailing. GlassGard is much more practical for car owner who prefer low water stain attached on the front windscreen surface which may affect the visibility of the driver.

So, what’s the verdict?

In my opinion both coating managed to perform well in each testing and I’m not being bias here and honestly it’s hard to choose one brand over the other especially when both brands stay true to what they’re claiming which is giving increased visibility and enhances vision while driving. You could say that it boils down to personal preferences at this point, to me the performance is almost the same but GlassGard have a bit of an edge because of the oily smooth finishing, water seems to bead and roll off the windscreen at a much better rate compared the GT Windscreen Coating. So, I’m going to give this round to the GlassGard.

Well now I’m going to pass a question to you guys, what do you guys think of the brands? Do you agree with me?  Or you have your own opinion? If you want us to test other brands, let us know in the comments.

  1. Yes they can paint the door handles any color you want. But it might cost more than you want to spend. For example the cost of the labor and paint would be pretty steep.
